Integrating Sustainability, Circularity, Regeneration & Innovation Education into Fashion & Textile Curriculum + Up-Skilling Teachers

for the Textile Innovation Engine of North Carolina, a part of the U.S. governmental body, the National Science Foundation.

The Engine partnered with the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction Career and Technical Education (NCDPI CTE) to provide supplemental instructional resources for high school teachers leading FA07: Fashion and Textiles 1 – Fundamentals. We collaborated with the Engine, the international consultancies Delivery Associates and Transcend Learning Consultants, and four North Carolina high school teachers to develop resources to support high school teachers in North Carolina in implement the updated Fashion and Textiles 1 curriculum with a focus on sustainability and innovation.

PROJECT SCOPE

  • Integrating sustainability, circularity, and regeneration education into over 90 materials for teachers to present to students; ensuring world-leading innovations were compared to local initiatives and reputable sources were foundational.

  • Creating 10 original resources, including, a design presentation based on Isabelle’s up-cycling and natural dyeing clothing collection.

  • Developing tailored presentations and guides to up-skill the four teachers and share reputable sources throughout the materials.

  • Over the next five years, our work will impact 25,000 students and 300 teachers.

Isabelle Saxton was a delight to work with and brought a valuable perspective on the global impact of the fashion industry to our high school curriculum project. She collaborated with our cohort of teachers to create custom training based on their self-identified knowledge gaps, reviewed and connected the lessons they developed to global issues and solutions, and compiled best-practice resources to support their work in building instructional materials for North Carolina high schools.

Full Sustainability Action Plan

for the New York-based biomaterial textiles start-up, Werewool.

PROJECT SCOPE

  • Identifying and evaluating ethical and scalable raw material suppliers

  • Outlining supplier code of ethics

  • Assessing relevant industry standards and certifications

  • Outlining how to communicate sustainability efforts, vision statement, and ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) goals (to internal employees and external suppliers, investors, fashion brands, and certification bodies)

  • Identifying areas for sustainability improvement and strategies to enhance ESG performance

  • Outlining ESG/ sustainability/ transparency report content and providing industry leading examples

  • Recommending future ESG strategy improvements

  • Developing roadmap, performance reporting, and metrics for the Sustainability Action Plan


Scope 3 GHG Emissions Inventory & Reduction Plan

for the Los Angeles-based sustainable clothing brand, Ocean + Main.

PROJECT SCOPE

  • Collecting scope 3 data

  • Identifying most likely sources of emissions (including textiles & transport)

  • Calculating highest categories using spend-based method

  • Recommending actionable reductions in emissions
